We purchased this 1977 Baloon Chaser Bronco from West Coast Broncos in the late 1990's when business had just started BOOMING, we were restoring/selling 50-75 Broncos every year. This truck had a totally rust free body and tub, and was perfect for the frame off restoration my client in Chicago wanted. I was told at that time that only 'eight' of this model were made to 'Chase Baloons across Colorado' in an advertising campaign for Ford. As far as I knew, from what I was told at the time, this was NOT one of the originals, but it was made at the same facility and is one of the eight that were made in 1977.

Back in 1998 or 1999, we were told this was NOT a real Baloon Chaser. That is why we sold it to and restored it for our client who wanted THIS truck restored the way HE wanted it restored. Being fairly young, and fairly new to the EB business, 'not knowing' for sure one way or the other if it was REAL or an imposter, I was not going to turn down a $65K restoration request.

Looking back, I regret not getting the facts straight before I allowed my team to tear it down and make something entirely different out of it. I certainly feel bad these days because rumor has it this WAS indeed a real Baloon Chaser. Anyways, what's done is done, and there is nothing I can do to reverse this at this point. Out of the 1000+ Broncos I have restored in my 20 year career, this was the only chance I ever had at installing a 427 Stroker engine in one of my customers restorations, which i was being paid well to do. I was certainly not going to turn him down, but I should have put him into something different, and I will always regret using this truck as a platform for a high dollar restoration. SORRY.

What it did end up being was a FABOLOUS truck. It got a Hawaii Racing 427 Stroker 351 Windsor off-road race engine, Ford SVO aluminum heads, MSD ignition, billet distributer, wires and blaster 2 coil, Edlebrock carburetor, Edlebrock preformer manifold, double sump oil pan, Edlebrock water pump, four core radiator and mounts, all new belts and hoses, plugs, polished 100 amp alternator, new NV4500 five speed transmission with Advanced Adapters kit, Centerforce clutch set up, rebuilt power steering pump and gear box, rebuilt power disc brake system, rebuilt Dana 44 front axle, new Ford 9" rear end with Detroit Locker and Wilwood four piston caliper discs, new 31 spline Currie axles, nodular pinion, 4.56 gearing, new driveshafts, undercoated, blacked out chassis and suspension, new WCB performance suspension system with dual shock hoops, 10 leaf rear springs, new shackle bushings, new tie rod, drag link, dropped pitman arm, drop bracket, track bar bushings.
